MyAbelia Chat is a messaging app for talking to people in real time — by text, voice or video — with a feed, disappearing status updates and a shared calendar built in. Here is the whole journey, from the moment you sign up to the moment your message is read.
Sign up with your name, email, birthday and a password, and agree to the Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy. That is everything you need to start chatting — no phone contacts to upload, no waiting for approval.
Add a profile photo and a short bio so people recognise you, then pick your language — English, French, Kinyarwanda, Swahili or Luganda. The whole app switches immediately. You can also choose a light or dark look, and make your account private if you would rather approve who follows you.
Search for someone by name in Contacts and start a chat, or create a group. You also get your own personal chat link and QR code — put it in a bio, a poster or a message, and anyone who opens it lands straight in a conversation with you. If they don't have an account yet, they create one and arrive in that same chat.
You type, you press send. Your message travels to MyAbelia's servers over an encrypted connection, is saved to your conversation, and is pushed to everyone in that chat within a fraction of a second — no refreshing. The ticks tell you where it is: sent, delivered to their device, then read. You'll also see when someone is typing and whether they're online.
Your message waits safely in the conversation and a notification is sent to their phone or browser. The moment they open the app it appears, and you see it turn to delivered — then read once they open the chat.
Send photos, videos, voice notes, documents and your location — including live location that keeps updating while you're on the move. Reply to a specific message, forward it, react with an emoji, edit or delete what you sent, pin the important one to the top, or schedule a message to be delivered later. If a message arrives in a language you don't read, one tap translates it, and another tap brings back the original.
One tap starts a voice or video call. MyAbelia only introduces the two devices to each other — once you're connected, the picture and sound travel directly between you wherever the network allows, which is what keeps calls quick and clear. Every call, answered or missed, is listed in your call history.
Group chats have admins who manage members. Type @ to mention someone: they get an @ badge on that conversation so an important line isn't lost in a busy thread. You can even mention someone who isn't in the group — they receive a single card in their mention inbox showing just that message, and nothing else from the conversation.
Chatting and calling are yours from day one. If you want the verified badge next to your name and the ability to post on the feed, you can activate your account with a yearly subscription paid by mobile money in RWF, UGX, TZS or KES. You approve the payment prompt on your phone and the confirmation comes back on its own — Settings then shows your status and how many days remain before renewal.

External chats
For businesses: conversations started from your own website or app are routed to your team inside MyAbelia, and answered like any other chat.
Private by choice. Make your account private so you approve who follows you and sees what you share.
Block and report. Block anyone at any time — and unblock them later — or report a message, post or account for review.
Clear a chat, just for you. Clearing a conversation hides it from your side only. The other person's copy is untouched.
Leave whenever you like. Delete your account permanently from Settings. Your personal details go with it, while the people you spoke to keep their side of the conversation readable.
MyAbelia Chat is available in English, French, Kinyarwanda, Swahili and Luganda, and any single message can be translated on the spot. Two people can hold one conversation while each reads it comfortably.
